Rangers are on Duty at Seashore Visitor Centers

While the seashore’s visitor center buildings remain closed, rangers are providing information services outdoors on the grounds of the Salt Pond and Province Lands visitor centers. From mid-morning to late afternoon each day, weather permitting, rangers are offering orientation talks, question and answer sessions, maps, brochures, and junior ranger booklets and awards. Specific hours will be determined once visitation patterns become clear.“With safety of our staff and the public during COVID-19 as our highest priority, our rangers have devised creative ways to engage with visitors to help them plan a safe, enjoyable, and resource-sensitive visit,” said Chief of Interpretation and Cultural Resources Management Sue Moynihan. “Our centers each serve several hundred to over 1,000 people per day during the height of summer. Assisting one person at a time from indoors under strict occupancy limits and safety protocols would be inefficient and lead to long wait times. Our outdoor pop-up stations provide a higher quality experience in beautiful settings.”
The America’s National Parks store at Salt Pond Visitor Center is open Thursdays through Mondays, mid-morning to late afternoon. Operated by the seashore’s education partner, Eastern National, the store features books, maps, puzzles, games, apparel, and other seashore-related items. The store is operating from the visitor center classroom, with entrance on the pond side of the building.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the Center for Coastal Studies are collaborating with the national seashore to offer pop-up information stations at several beaches this summer. Staff and interns from these organizations are sharing information about the marine environment, sharks, seals, and whales. For more information, visit the organizations’ websites.
Visitors are reminded to maintain social distance of at least six feet; to wear a mask where social distancing cannot be maintained; and to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing.
