The Rex Hale Campground in Wyoming is a great place to camp just outside of Yellowstone National Park. The scenic views and the nearby streams provide a wonderful backdrop for those looking to camp and explore in the area. It has plenty of facilities such as fire pits, picnic tables, toilets, and a dump station, making it an inviting place to stay. There are also numerous trails over various terrain nearby, allowing for plenty of time to explore the surrounding area. The campground offers both tent and RV camping options, making it a great place for families and groups of friends alike. Overall, the Rex Hale Campground is an ideal place for anyone looking for a great camping experience close to Yellowstone National Park.
Grizzly bears can be found in and around the Rex Hale Campground in Wyoming. As one of the only campgrounds in the greater Yellowstone region offering tent camping, visitors can often spot the bears living and hunting in the area. Rex Hale is located 18 miles east of Yellowstone National Parks east entrance, there are campgrounds closer, but those do require hardshell (RV) campers due to the frequent bear activity.
Grizzly bears in the Yellowstone region are typically larger than those in the rest of the United States and can reach up to 8 feet tall when fully grown. Generally solitary animals, these bears live off of the natural food sources of the park, such as cutthroat trout, elk, bison, and moose.
As mountain and woodlands dominate the landscape, visitors can encounter the bears while navigating the campground’s trails and paths. For safety, visitors should always carry bear spray, stay away from cubs, and maintain a safe distance from the animal. Also, visitors should give the bear plenty of space and never approach it.
Late August 2021 was an ideal time for my wife Jen and I to visit Yellowstone National Park. Due to the mild temperatures, we were able to spend our days outdoors exploring the many wonders of the park. We started our first day by driving through the park’s vast expanses of grassland and forest. It was so beautiful – the trees swaying in the breeze, the sun glinting off of the shimmering water of Yellowstone Lake, and the immense wildlife roaming free.
We could see bison, elk, bighorn sheep just off the side of the road. We even spotted a few iconic Old Faithful eruptions, venting steam and erupting water high into the sky. We spent most of our days out in the park, taking pictures and simply enjoying the peaceful beauty of Yellowstone.
